Columbus, North Carolina- George Herbert Worthington III, 80, of 196 Possum Trot Lane, Columbus, NC, died Friday, September 12, 2008. Mr. Worthington was born in NYC, NY. He was the son of the late George Herbert Worthington, Jr. and Aida Adda Worthington. He graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford Connecticut and attended Brown University, before enlisting in the Navy. Mr. Worthington was a member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Great Neck, NY. Surviving is his wife, Janet Bethel Worthington, and three children, Lorraine Mosca of Columbus, NC, George Worthington IV of Piedmont SC, Frank Henry Worthington of Tryon NC, a sister Elvira Taylor of Charlotte NC and 6 grandchildren and 4 nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 2p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
