Columbus, NC- George Robert Cunningham, 78, of Lynn Road, died Sunday, December 16, 2007, in Mission Memorial Hospital, Asheville, NC. Born in Staten Island, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph and Nora Farraher Cunningham. Mr. Cunningham was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served in WWII. George and Nan moved to Tryon in l986 coming from Titusville, FL. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, NC. George was adored by his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. Surviving include; his wife of 55 years, Marianne "Nan" McCafferty Cunningham of the home; one daughter, Maura McCabe and her husband Richard of El Paso, TX; two sons, Richard Cunningham and his wife Caryn of Lynn, NC and Luke Cunningham and his wife Jennifer of Crawford, NJ; 10 grandchildren, Tara Clements, Caitlin McCabe, Lizabeth McCabe, Scott McCabe, Erin Mills, Brendan Cunningham, Briana Cunningham, Kerry Cunningham, Liam Cunningham, and Maeve Cunningham. Also surviving is one great grandchild, Jonathan Mills. A memorial mass will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Father Patrick Winslow officiating.
