TRYON, NC - Genelle Wagner Hooker Pereira, 75, of Hooker Rd., Tryon, NC died Monday, October 8, 2007 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC. Born in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Delwin and Pauline Metcalf Wagner. Mrs. Pereira retired from St. Luke's Hospital after 28 years of service. Mrs. Pereira was currently employed with Dr. Wanda Starling and Link Medical. She was a member of the Tryon First Baptist Church. Surviving are: her husband, Tony Pereira; two daughters, Elizabeth Hooker McCallister (Rick) and Barbara R. Stratford both of Tryon, NC; two sisters, Jennie Ayers of Landrum, SC and Peggy Rankin (Fred) of Norfolk, VA; one brother, Kenny Powers of Norfolk, VA; one step-son, Anthony Pereira, Jr. (Brenda) of Sumter, SC. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; Matthew McCallister, Anthony Michael, Joseph and Charles Lee Pereira, Jordan E. Stratford, Danny, Brittany and Edward Javurke and 1 great-grandson, Cole Pereira. She was preceded in death by two stepdaughters, Susan Pereira Emory and Pamela Pereira Javurke and a granddaughter, Meredith Wagner McCallister. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC with Dr. Darryl E. Maxwell officiating assisted by Phillip W. Scoggins. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
