Obituary

Gary Michael McGaha (lovingly referred to as Mike or Magoo), 68, of Inman, South Carolina, went to his heavenly home Monday, November 24th, 2025 after a long, heroic battle with cancer.

Mike was born and raised in Henderson County, North Carolina before moving to Inman, South Carolina in 2007.  He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Sylvester McGaha (Paw Paw), his mother Beatrice Stepp McGaha (Bebe), his sister Elaine McGaha Case, and his niece Kristen Heather Case.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Terry Ballew McGaha, the light of his life daughter, Lindsey B McGaha-Murray, her husband Joe Murray and his beyond spoiled and loved granddogs Tegan and Barrett; Sister in Laws who he loved like his own sisters Cheryl Griffin (Gary), Robin Hunnicutt (Kip), Debbie Johnson (Glenn) his nieces and nephews Justin Griffin (Tiffany), Blair Capps (Ben), Tiffany Anders, Victoria Johnson, Jordan Case, numerous cousins and other extended family.

He received an Associates Degree in automotive mechanics and worked at Wakefield Buick in Spartanburg, South Carolina from 1976 to 2022 when he retired.  Throughout his 47 year tenure at Wakefield, he started working as a mechanic moving all the way to Service Manager of the Shop.

While living in Henderson County Mike was a longtime member of Fruitland Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, member of the choir and constant volunteer.  He served as Booster Club President for North Henderson High school and also coached shooting for 18 years winning many competitions during his tenure.  After moving to South Carolina he was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.

Mike loved the Lord and he was the epitome of a person with a servant's heart.  In his life it was God first then his family.  He cherished his wife and daughter more than anything on earth and doing anything with them, whether it be traveling or watching a movie, brought him joy.  He loved to spend time with and spoil his granddogs; he stood firmly by the policy "they do whatever they want at Poppy's".  He enjoyed working on vehicles, projects around the house and watching football with his son in law.  Mike was a lifelong, diehard fan of the New York Yankees.  Many of those closest to him say he was unrecognizable without his signature Navy Yankees Hat.  He was also a diehard North Carolina Tarheels fan and he and his daughter would often watch the games together or be on the phone throughout.

A private Celebration of Life for immediate family will be scheduled at a later date.
