Tryon, NC - Gail Maureen Mellberg, 71, of Ridge Top Road, Tryon, NC died Saturday, April 28, 2007 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center in Spartanburg, SC. Born in Neenah, WI, she was the daughter of Louise Stadler Loehning and the late Gaylord Loehning. A High School Valedictorian, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in Chemistry from of the University of Wisconsin. She moved to Tryon in 2001 from Pottersville, NJ. Mrs. Mellberg was an avid hiker, member of St. John's Catholic Church where she served on the Ladies Guild. She was active in Girl Scouts for over thirty years and became an enthusiastic member of the Green Blades Garden Club after moving to Tryon, NC. She is survived by husband, James Mellberg of Tryon, NC; mother Louise: one son, Eric Mellberg and wife Gail of Titusville, FL; two daughters, Diane King and husband, Anthony of San Jose, CA and Laura Nessmiller and husband, Steven of San Pedro, CA. Gail was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda. She is the beloved sister of Jane Loper of Madison, WI and Helen Rose of Ft. Atkinson, WI. Her cherished grandchildren are Bridget King, Linda and Luke Nessmiller. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in St. John's Catholic Church, Tryon, NC with Father Patrick Winslow officiating. She will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Neenah, WI where additional services will be arranged. Family will receive friends from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday night, May 1, 2007 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
