Columbus, NC—Fred Covington Ashley, 84, of Columbus, NC went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 22, 2021.Fred was born to the late Charles Covington and Minnie Bell Norman Ashley. Fred could be described as a self-made man, a hard worker and entrepreneur that made sure his family was always provided for. Fred graduated from Gardner-Webb University with a bachelor's degree in business and administration. He started his career with Milliken working alongside Roger Milliken. During his 35 years of employment there, he obtained 9 different U.S. Patents on machinery related to the textile industry. While employed at Milliken, Fred started family businesses which included Ashley's Upholstery, Valley Fabrics and Quality Technical Cleanroom Supplies Inc. Fred was actively working at Quality Technical Cleanroom Supplies Inc. until his passing. He was a dedicated member of Columbus Presbyterian Church where he served in many capacities. His favorite part about church was the youth group and he enjoyed supporting youth group activities.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Rebecca Coggins Ashley in 2019; a daughter, Terri "Susie" Elaine Ashley; two sons, Christopher Norman Ashley and Charles Randolph "Randy" Ashley; two brothers, Wilson Ashley and David Ashley and five sisters, Homer Jones, Val Durham, Mary Shannon, Thetis Ormand and Caroline Case.Surviving are two sons, Philip Ashley (Donna) and Shannon Ashley (Hope); one daughter, Amanda Pack (Kevin); 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Also surviving are a brother, Larry Ashley; a cousin, Norma Gault; and two sisters-in-law, Isabell Ashley and Linda Wyszynski (Dennis).A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Columbus Presbyterian Church in Columbus, NC with Reverend Dr. Philip Dunford and Reverend Philip Ashley officiating.  Masks will be available at the church for those who need one. The family will receive friends at the church following the service in the Fred C.
