Obituary

Frank Sutherland Martin, of Columbus, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Frank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who treasured his family above all else. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Brenda Martin; his daughter, Susan Martin Krawczyk, and her husband, Stephen Krawczyk; his son, Jeffrey Alan Martin, and his wife, Courtney Harwood-Martin; and his cherished grandchildren, Kailey Arnold, Andrew Krawczyk, Vega Martin, Jackson Harwood, Lawson Harwood, and Townsley Harwood. He is also survived by his sister, Rebecca Martin Edwards of Auburndale, Florida; his brother, Willard Martin of Columbus, North Carolina; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Ellen Martin of Auburndale, Florida; his brother, David Martin of Missouri; and his beloved son, Scott Martin of Columbus, North Carolina.

Born in West Virginia and raised in central Florida, Frank spent more than 40 years living in the Carolinas, where he built both a career and a life centered around hard work, family, and community. He retired from the industrial sales industry and was formerly the owner of Martin Electric Service in North Carolina’s Triad region.

Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during Vietnam.

Frank found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved spending time with his family and cats, playing guitar, watching sports, and writing music. A man of Christian faith, he also enjoyed giving back to others through coaching little league baseball, serving as a Boy Scout leader, volunteering as a band parent for his children’s high school marching band programs, and sharing his love of music by playing at church.

Frank will be remembered for his love of family, his strength, his musical spirit, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him. His presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the McFarland Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel with Reverend Sheila Bishop officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus.

Military honors will be conducted by the Polk County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
