Florence Neal Gantt Freeman, a resident of White Oak Manor in Tryon, NC, passed away on December 4, 2021 after several years of declining health. Florence was born to Jessie Hughes Gantt and Clifford L. Gantt on March 30, 1925 in Liberty, SC. She was a graduate of Pickens High School (SC) and attended business school in Greenville, SC. She married Alvin Freeman, the love of her life, on February 14, 1946. They shared life's adventures, joys, and sorrows together until Alvin's death in 2014. Florence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Walhalla, SC, and was a lifelong fan of the Clemson Tigers and the Atlanta Braves.Florence enjoyed life as a stay-at-home mom before working many years as the bookkeeper/office manager for the family land surveying business in Anderson, SC. She was a skilled seamstress making most of her own clothes and many items for her children when they were growing up. Florence enjoyed shopping for shoes and accessories to match each outfit she made. She crafted dozens of crocheted items for her home and family. Preparing meals for family gatherings was also a source of enjoyment. She especially loved baking cookies and other desserts for her grandchildren. Through the years she served in her church as a children's teacher in Sunbeams, preschool music, Sunday School, and VBS. She was active in women's ministries and missions, and assisted Alvin in leading the senior adult ministry at her church for many years. She also enjoyed singing in the adult choir at First Baptist, Walhalla.Florence was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as two sons – Clarence Al Freeman and Dr. John E. Freeman, a grandson – Jonathan Kyle Freeman, 4 sisters, and 4 brothers. She is survived by her son, Rev. Dan Freeman (Judy) of Mooresville, NC; her daughter, Susan Eernisse (Dr. Glenn) of Carrollton, GA; one sister, Jessie Gantt Gragg of Ashville, NC; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens, SC, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 9, 2021 with Rev. Dan Freeman officiating. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice.
