Tryon, NC -- Eugene C. Leary, 75, Naples, Florida and Tryon North Carolina, died Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, in Tryon, North Carolina peacefully surrounded by his family.

He was born in Malden, MA and he was the son of the late Eugene T. Leary and Frances Dunn Leary.

Gene was an 82nd Airborne Division Medic for the US Army. He received his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts for addiction counseling as well as being a licensed LPN and RN. He loved fishing and golfing. He was an avid reader and a gifted musician. Above all he loved his sun conure Coco.

Surviving family includes his wife Elly Leary, two daughters, Eva Corso and her husband Gianluca Corso, Deanne Mehtala and partner Filippo Mastrocola and grandson Joseph Mehtala, Jr. all of Naples FL.

The family will receive friends for a Remembrance Gathering from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, Saturday, September 12th, 2026, in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC.
