Essie Leona Brown, 80, of Columbus, NC passed away, Saturday, March 17, 2018 at her home.Born in Cocke County, TN, she was the daughter of the late Walter Brownlow Hayes and Ethel Dalton Hayes. Ms. Brown moved to Columbus in October 2014 from Stanly County, NC. She loved Gospel Music but most of all, her family was her life.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Brown and a son, Timothy Brown.Surviving is one son, Tom Brown (Sherry) of Albemarle, NC; two daughters, Ethel Washington (Orlando) of Mableton, GA and Betty Brown of Columbus, NC; one brother, Liston Hayes of Vineland, NJ. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, 2018 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Debra Hartsfield officiating.Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
