COLUMBUS, NC - Ervin John Pack, 87, of Columbus, NC died Friday, September 23, 2011 in the Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte, NC.A native of Polk County, NC, he was the son the late George and Mae Smith Pack. Mr. Pack was a veteran WWII having served in the U.S. Army. He retired as a supervisor with Homelite in Greer, SC after 30 years of service. Mr. Pack was a charter member and helped organize the Columbus Fire Dept., past member of the Polk County School Board and served on the Beautification Committee of Stearns Park. He volunteered at the Good Neighbor Store at the Columbus Baptist Church where he was a member and former deacon.Surviving is his wife of 64 years, Mildred Lindsay Pack; one daughter, Elenda Metcalf (Bill) of Campobello, SC; two sons, John Pack (Annette) of Landrum, SC and Chet Pack of Morganton, NC; one sister, Paranthia Murdoch of Spartanburg, SC and one sister-in-law, Anne Lindsay Culbreth (Paul) of Campobello, SC. Also surviving are six grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Hoyt Pack who died in 1996.Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2011 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Robert Capps and Rev. Lynn Stewart officiating.Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC.The family will receive friends prior to the service Sunday afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
