Ernest Furman Nash, Jr., 86, of Columbus, NC, passed away at his residence on April 9, 2007, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenville County, SC, on April 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Ernest Furman Nash, Sr., and Ada Owens Nash, of Fountain Inn, SC. Ernie retired after a 54 year career in commercial construction project management that took him all over the United States. After retirement to the NC Mountains, he enjoyed golfing, auto racing and spending time with friends and family and especially, his faithful companions, Little Man and B-Dog. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Tipton Nash, and his daughters, Mary Ann Knight (Johnny) of Simpsonville, SC, and Lisa Marie Nash of Orlando, FL, and the late Becky Dickson (John) of Chapin, SC, who predeceased her father in September 2005. He is also survived by three grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a large extended family of loved ones including his faithful friend, Jack Jolley, and brother-in-law, William Doyle Tipton, both of Columbus, NC. Ernie is also survived by two sisters, Bea Nash Vassar (Bill) and Jean Nash Camp, both of Rome, GA. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Owens Nash (Frances) of Fountain Inn, SC. He is also survived by a nephew, Rick Petusky (Lee) of Rome, GA, and predeceased by two nephews and one niece. He was of the Baptist faith. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722. A receiving of friends and family will be held at Cannon Funeral Home, 1150 N. Main St., Fountain Inn, SC, on April 11, 2007 from 4 to 6pm. A private burial will follow at a later date.
