Obituary

Edwin M. "Ted" Tinnon of LaurelHurst, Columbus, died February 28, 2016, having recently celebrated his 93rd birthday. Born in Joliet, Illinois, he was the son of the late John B. and Edwine M. Tinnon.He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Barbara ("Bobbie"). He is survived by daughter Shelley Stama and husband Frank, son Scott and wife Katie, and four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kim, David, Tip and his wife Stephanie.Ted enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 106th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the end of WW II, he completed his college education at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.Ted and Bobbie were married in 1948 and previously lived in Port Chester and Chappaqua, New York, and in Princeton, New Jersey. Ted worked for over 30 years for M&T Chemicals, Inc., where he served as Director of Sales and Marketing. Ted also was active in his church, as President of the Board of Trustees and chairman of a new church building committee at Mt. Kisco Presbyterian Church.When Ted retired in 1983, they moved to Tryon, building a home in Many Levels. He was a member of the Tryon Congregational Church, where he again served as President of the Board of Trustees. Ted was President of Foothills Equestrian Nature Center ("FENCE"). He volunteered regularly at Pearson's Falls, becoming an honorary member of Tryon Garden Club. He and Bobbie were involved with Childrens Theater Festival (Super Saturday) and the Blue Ridge BBQ Festival, sang with the Rotary Chorus, and were named to the the Second Wind Hall of Fame.A memorial service will be held at the Congregational Church at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, March 5. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Tryon Garden Club, PO Box 245, Tryon, NC 28782, Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722, the Congregational Church, PO Box 1367, Tryon, NC 28722, or a memorial of your choice.
