Edward Anthony "Ed" Rostick, of Tryon, NC, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026.
Born in Philadelphia on September 6, 1930, Ed was the younger son of Frederick and Josephine Rostick. Upon graduating from high school Ed started what became a 48 year career journey with Steel Heddle Manufacturing Company. He began as an apprentice tool and die maker and over the years diligently worked his way up to ultimately become Executive Vice President. While working at Steel Heddle, Ed took the initiative to enter night school at Drexel University, where he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduating with honors in 1972. Notably, Ed was the first member of his family to have obtained a college degree. Continuing with the company, Ed relocated with Steel Heddle to Greenville, SC in 1979 and retired in 1996.
Ed had an insatiable curiosity and a love of learning. He was a voracious reader, history buff, and an experienced musician. He seemed able to build, design or repair almost anything. He freely and capably tutored his friends, employees, and especially his family in subjects ranging from investing, music theory, calculus, chemistry, physics and history. He was the ultimate do-it-yourself person who always seemed to confidently know the right next step.
As dedicated as he was to his work, studies and various projects, Ed was never happier or more energized than when he was surrounded by his family, particularly his beloved wife of 61 years, Virginia. He was a nurturing grandfather who invented silly games and happily got on the floor to play with his grandchildren. He taught each of them how to shoot marbles, play chess, scrabble and even pinochle - all the while listening to his favorite music and educating them on who had the best big band. In so many ways, Ed was the leader of his family "band," whether playing his stand-up bass, offering advice, or sharing a humorous story, Ed never failed to set a good example.
Ed will be missed profoundly as a wonderful and attentive husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His example, wisdom, talent and love of family lives on in all of those with whom he shared his wonderful gifts.
Ed was preceded in death by his son, Robert and is survived by his wife, Virginia, as well as sons Edward (Rosemary), Paul (Kathryn), Mark (Katherine), Chris (Paula) and Doug (Carolyne); as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank loving care-givers Brandi Thompson and everyone at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
The family will host a memorial service on Saturday, October 17, 2026 at 1pm at The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon, NC. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made either to The Congregational Church, UCC in Tryon, NC or Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.
