Edward Pinkney McAbee, 81, of Mill Spring, passed away Thursday morning, March 2, 2023 at his home.A native and lifelong resident of Polk County, Ed was the son of the late Hicks McAbee and Alcie O'Sullivan McAbee. Ed worked in textiles all of his career having worked for Barnett Southern, Landrum Mills, and retired from Mohawk Industries. Ed was a member of Mill Spring First Baptist Church and also attended Emanual Baptist Church.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis McAbee, Craig McAbee, Richard McAbee, and Ronald McAbee; one sister, Mary Ellen Shehan.Surviving is one daughter, Kathy Priester (Tony) of Columbus; one son, Keith McAbee (Robin) of Landrum; two brothers, Bud McAbee and Bobby McAbee (Judy) both of Mill Spring; two sisters, Rachel Wilson of Mill Spring and Libby Bailey of Albemarle. Also surviving are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at Mill Spring First Baptist Church with Reverend Joey Pitts and Reverend Brian Wilson officiating.The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Kathy Priester.
