Mr. Edward Thomas Delehanty, 81, of Lake Lanier, SC, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in Columbus, NC. Ed was born in San Francisco, CA, on May 29, 1926. He was the youngest of four children born to Kate Delehanty of Ireland and William Delehanty of San Francisco. He was a World War II veteran who went on to graduate from Stanford University with adegree in Economics. He married his first wife Helen on November 11, 1950. Theymoved to Manhattan Beach, CA, where Ed worked at North American Aviation, and laterworked at California Institute of Technology. He and Helen had five wonderful children, whom they took camping at every opportunity. Ed was widowed in 1968. On October 13, 1977, Ed married Ellen Wellman, his surviving wife, and moved to Lake Lanier, SC. He opened a successful Tax Accounting Business, which he and Ellen ran until his retirement. He enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and having fun at his lake house.He is survived by Ellen Rebecca, his wife of 30 years; daughter Ann Bloom (Art), son William Delehanty (April), daughter Mary Delehanty, son Patrick Delehanty, and son Kevin Delehanty (Cory). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Matt and Kate Bloom; Tim, Jessica and Angel Delehanty; Kyle and Brian Delehanty.A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon, NC with Father Dean Cesa officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Building Fund, 180 Laurel Ave., Tryon, NC 28782 or to Habitat for Humanity, 132 N.
