- Edna Olive Florig, 103, of Columbus, NC, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at her residence.Edna, a native of Crofton, Nebraska, lived in the Chicago area during her married life with Andrew Florig. She graduated from The University of Chicago and taught at the University Lab School and in the public schools in Illinois. After her retirement, Edna traveled extensively. She lived in Florida before moving to Columbus and continued her bird watching and varied interests.Edna was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, four brothers and a sister.Surviving are a son, Philip A. Florig of Columbus, NC; a daughter, Vivian E. Torrence of Columbus, NC; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.Vivian and Philip wish to thank the staff of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills for their support.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O. Box 336 Forest City, NC 28043.No services are planned at this time. To friends and family Edna wishes to be remembered as she was at their last meeting.
