Whether he was laying his healing hands on his chiropractic patients or the organic vegetables he grew in his bountiful gardens, Fred Hamilton Rindge, IV, lived a long life nurturing his family, friends, and community.

Born on March 24, 1936, in New York City to Fred H. Rindge III and Jeanne Pontius Rindge, Fred was raised on their family farm in western New York before attending Ohio Wesleyan University, where he met his future bride, Katharine Boerner. They were wed July 2, 1960, in Forest Hills, NY, after Fred joined the Air Force in 1957. Three adoring children were born to Fred and Katharine while he served as a captain and navigator in Vietnam and at military bases throughout the U.S. before being honorably discharged in 1970.

He proceeded to study at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, graduating in 1973. That year, Fred began his chiropractic career in Lexington, Va., before continuing his practice in Emporia, Kansas, in 1979. Fred and his family returned east in 1980, moving to Tryon, and then Columbus, North Carolina. He had chiropractic practices in Tryon and Hendersonville, NC, not retiring until age 82 because he loved treating his patients. His community activities while in the NC mountains included serving as president and thespian with the Tryon Little Theater, singing with community chorus, and volunteering for Hospice and the Pavilion Addiction Treatment Center.

After Katharine’s passing in 2016, Fred resided at Tryon Estates in Columbus, NC from 2020 until he passed peacefully on August 21, 2026.

When Fred wasn’t providing sustenance and support, he might have been found on a beach looking for sharks teeth, in a field discovering arrowheads, regaling friends with song, or at a kitchen table beating everyone at Chinese Checkers. Fred combined his lifelong pursuits of providing care to all around him, both professionally and personally. The fruits of the labors he cultivated in his chiropractic offices and gardens both strengthened and nourished all he shared life with. And he did it with humor, love, and a touch that was uniquely Fred, a true character and good man.

Fred leaves behind son Fred and wife Brenda of Charleston, SC; daughter Karen Rindge and husband Reid Wilson of Raleigh, NC; son Sean Rindge and husband Hillery Rink of Atlanta, GA; brother John and sister-in-law Sue Rindge of Palmyra, VA; brother Tom and sister-in-law Kristin Wold of Lenox, MA; granddaughter Brianna Soat and grandson-in-law Jalen Soat of Merritt Island, FL; grandson Nick Rindge and granddaughter-in-law Meagan Rindge of Charleston, SC; grandson Benjamin Rindge of Blacklick, OH; granddaughter Cassidy Rindge of Charleston, SC; grandson Drew Wilson of Raleigh, NC; and granddaughter Savannah Wilson of Washington, DC; and great grandchildren Brock, Brady and Elizabeth Rindge, of Charleston, SC.
