TRYON, NC - Doris McClure Scoggins, 83, of Tryon, NC passed away Sunday morning, June 8, 2008 at her home. Born in Spartanburg County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Samuel J and Vivian Page McClure and widow of the late Clarence G. Scoggins who died in 2004. Mrs. Scoggins retired as Polk County Register of Deeds after 40 years of service. She was a member of the Polk County Democrat Party, Tryon Fire Dept. Auxiliary and Tryon First Baptist Church where she was involved in WMU. Surviving are two sons, Mike Scoggins (Norma) of Hartwood, VA and Phil Scoggins (Joyce) of Campobello, SC. Also surviving are five grandsons, Michael Scoggins of New York City, NY, Barrett Scoggins and Ryan Scoggins both of Hartwood, VA, Brent Scoggins of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Lucas Scoggins of Campobello, SC; two great grandchildren, R.D. and Trevor. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Scoggins who died in 2006. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2008 in the Tryon First Baptist Church, Tryon, NC with Dr. Bill Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Tryon First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. Memorials may be made to Tryon First Baptist Church Activity Building, 125 Pacolet Street, Tryon, NC 28782. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Phil Scoggins, 325 John High Rd., Campobello, SC.
