COLUMBUS, NC -- Doris Seitz Gordon, 82, of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC, died Monday, December 15, 2008 with her husband and daughters at her side, concluding a courageous battle with cancer.She was born January 1, 1926 in Wyckoff, New Jersey. After a brief career in New York City, she was married to William F. Gordon in 1947. They raised 3 children in Wyckoff where Doris was active with the Wyckoff Reformed Church choir and Women's Guild, as a Girl Scout leader and as a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. After a move to the Pocono Mountains of PA in 1969 she became an active member and president of the Pocono Mountain Garden Club. The couple also spent time at their winter home in Pompano Beach, FL and their summer cottage in Monmouth, ME. In 2002 the Gordons moved to Tryon Estates, where Doris was active with several Music Society galas and the Long-Range Planning Committee. She sang with the Tryon Estates Chorus and enjoyed croquet, shuffleboard, bocce ball and hiking.She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years William F. Gordon; her daughter Kim Gordon of Waterville, ME and her husband, Richard Sewell; her daughter Karyl Gordon-Darley of Boca Raton, FL; a grandson Gavin Sewell of New York City; a granddaughter Bronwyn Sewell of Boston, MA; a grandson William Darley of Adelaide, Australia; a brother Warren Seitz of Pittsboro, NC. She was predeceased by her son, William F. Gordon. Jr.The family would like to thank the nursing staff of WillowBrooke Court at Tryon Estates and Palliative Care and Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.A memorial service will be held Friday, December 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in the Tryon Estates Auditorium.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801.
