Obituary

Tryon, NC- Donald Dean "Don" Dill, 89, went to be home with his Lord and Savior on November 25, 2025.

Don was born in Greer, SC to the late Jason and Bessie Copeland Dill. Don was an avid outdoorsman who adored hunting and fishing. He was an excellent fly fisherman and loved to create his own flies. Don also loved working with metal and shared his blacksmithing craft with the community. He was one of the founders of a local blacksmithing club where a number of fellow blacksmiths gathered to share their creations and passion with one another.

He was a hard worker and loved to start the day on his farm with all his beloved animals. For many years young farm hands would be hired to help on the farm and he would softly and quietly share his knowledge with them. They would grow up and old would go and new would come in and "papa Don" would always be ready to share his wisdom and stories with the next students of life.

He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and surrogate grandfather to many of the youth in our community. He was a loving husband who shared 32 years of marriage with a woman who adored him from beginning to end.

He will surly be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Hennrietta Payne.

Surviving is his wife of 32 years, Mary L. Dill; his sons, Tony Dill of Greer, SC; Donnie Dill (Donetta)of Ware Shoals, SC; five grandchildren, Donni Leigh, Shannon, Brian, Amanda, and Nici. Also surviving are a number of great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at Columbus Presbyterian Church in Columbus, NC with Reverend Philip Ashley and Reverend Steve Price officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 1:00 p.m.

Burial will follow the service at Lambs Fold Cemetery, 1800 John Smith Road, Columbus, NC 28722.
