Obituary

--David Ernest Fremont Tittle died on December 8, 2020 at his home in Columbus, NC at the age of 85.  At his side was his beloved wife of 62 years, Delia.David was the son of Phyllis Fox and John Myers Tittle, and the grandson of the Dr. Ernest Fremont Tittle a prominent Methodist minister who notably preached the gospel of pacifism during World War II.  David took great pride in his ancestor and was himself a fierce pacifist and advocate for social justice.  David was a graduate of the Fountain Valley School, Hamilton College, and Harvard Business School.  In his five decades in the business world, David worked for Alcoa, Sara Lee, Booth Fisheries, and Cosco, where he retired as CFO in 2005.  As a marketing consultant he oversaw the rollout of Monterey Vineyards and Yoplait yogurt.  But David drew the most pleasure from being at home surrounded by family—especially Delia.  He also derived much joy from art, music and always dogs.  He was a talented artist who excelled in drawing and woodworking.  He loved reading and philosophy and possessed a profound curiosity about the world. In addition to his wife, David is survived by his three daughters, Betsy Robb (Graham), Sarah (Ken Backhus) and Allison (Steve Berman) as well as six grandchildren: David and Henry Robb, Sam and Natalie Uprichard, and Carson and Adelaide Buckhus and a sister, Susan (Tittle) Wargo. To honor David's passion for dogs and all animals, his family request memorial contributions be made to Foothills Humane Society in Columbus, NC.
