Tryon, NC- David Wayne Herron, 63, of Tryon, NC passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in the VA Medical Center, Asheville, NC. Born in Kansas City, MO, he was the son of the late David Sherwen and Claudine Colton Herron. He was a member of Columbus United Methodist Church. Mr. Herron was a member of American Legion Post 250, Tryon, NC, VFW Post 10349, Mill Spring, NC and DAV. He was employed at Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry as Food Pantry Coordinator, home repair administrator, and Feed a Kid Program administrator. Mr. Herron retired in 1993 as Sergeant Major of the United States Marine Corp., Mag-32, 2d Marine Aircraft. His military career included two tours of Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division 3rd Amphibian Tractor Battalion-Recon. Survivors include; wife, Robin G. Herron of the home; one son, John David Herron of Birmingham, AL; one daughter, Candice Rae Herron Mitchell of Asheville, NC; one brother, Ray Herron of Blue Springs, MO. Also surviving are three grandsons and three great granddaughters. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 31, 2008 in Columbus United Methodist Church, Columbus, NC with Rev. Tony Sayer officiating. A military graveside service will be held Monday, June 2, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. in Western NC Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.
