Columbus, NC - David Arthur Lee Herbert, 58 of 121 White Oak Mountain Road, Columbus NC passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at his residence.David was born in Charleston, S.C. and was the son of the late Arthur Lee Herbert of Columbia and Lettie Stouder Herbert of Flat Rock, N.C. David was raised in Columbia, S.C. and graduated from the University of South Carolina. David worked for the Whirlpool Corporation for 24 years, in sales and executive leadership positions, and received the Division Retail Director of the Year Award in 2006. David and family lived in several states including Oregon, California, and Indiana before returning to the Carolinas. Upon moving to Columbus, N.C. nine years ago, David managed the Watson Flooring and Appliance store in Columbus. He was active with the Carolina Foothills Chamber of Commerce and volunteered in area Relays for Life annual Cancer Society fundraisers. More recently, David was working with Eastern Marketing Corporation as the District Sales Manager for the Southeast. David enjoyed playing golf, traveling, listening to music, biking, attending concerts, and playing music. He especially enjoyed the game of baseball, and of course, all Carolina Gamecock sports. For over 20 years, he was a baseball umpire. He played guitar, bass, piano, drums entertaining family and friends in his home music studio. David is survived by Linda Burgan Herbert, his wife of 36 years; sons Jonathan Herbert, of Hudson, N.C. and Jason (Christin) Herbert and grand-daughter Madison, of Batesburg, S.C.; brothers Geoff (Amy) Herbert of Greenville, S.C., and Chris (Mary) Herbert and nephew Austin of East Flat Rock, N.C.; sister Dona (Mark) Corley of Leesville, S.C.; nieces Vanessa Murphree, Veronica Ranger, Toni Corley, nephew Race Corley, and step-mother Ginger Herbert of Columbia, S.C. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 23 at 2:00 pm at McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC with Rev. Philip A. Whitehead officiating.
