David Rockwell Cudlip, 92, of Tryon, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026, at his home. Born in Detroit, Michigan, to William Byrnes Cudlip and Lynwood Bope Cudlip, David lived a full and spirited life marked by service, enterprise, conviction, and love for his country, family and friends.

A graduate of Dartmouth College, where he earned both his bachelor’s degree and MBA, David went on to serve in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956. His pride in America was a defining part of who he was. He believed in the promise of our nation, gave his time to national political and civic life, and carried a lifelong respect for those who served and sacrificed on its behalf.

David built a distinguished career in finance, aviation, executive management, marketing and as a fiction author. David will be remembered for his energy and wit. The laughter he shared, the stories he told, and the memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. He enjoyed reading, golf, fishing, good conversation and the company of family and friends. He was the father of Carolina and Robert. Brother to Mary Lou, William, Charles and Jean. Grandfather to Peter, Alexander, Catherine and Logan. His life leaves behind a legacy of patriotism, humor, intelligence, and affection.
