Columbus, NC- Claude Blaine Thompson, 90, husband of Sarah Cannon Thompson of Columbus, NC died July 1, 2007 in St. Luke's Hospital.Born in Polk County, NC he was the son of the late Otto and Mamie McMurray Thompson. He was a retired Veteran of the U. S. Army serving as Sgt. First Class in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Thompson was a member of Pacolet Baptist Church. Surviving besides his wife are; two sons, David Thompson (Sue) and Dennis Thompson both of Columbus, NC; a brother, Randolph Thompson (Edith) of Columbus, NC; a sister, Ruth Foster of Columbus, NC. Also surviving is a grandchild, Cheryl Thompson of Chapel Hill, NC and a step-grandchild, Johnna Jackson of Columbus, NC.Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 4:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Norville officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC.Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 330 Carolina Drive, Tryon, NC 28782.
