Landrum, SC - It is with regret and respect that we announce the passing of Christa Pergande Talbot Monday, October 13, 2014.Christa was born on May 8, l924 in Berlin, Germany. After surviving World War II she moved to Moravia, NY with her husband, Charles, and infant son, Lee, in l952. Althought she maintained her Germanic roots with frequent trips to Germany over the years, she proudly became a citizen of the United States in l961. She was active in civic events and was elected to the Moravia School Board where she served as President for several years. Christa also served as President of the New York State School Board Association.A student of the education system she served, Christa earned her AA from Auburn Community College and received her BA from SUNY, Cortland, graduating Sum Cum Laude in l968. A passionate lover of art history, she continued her education at SUNY Binghamton, where she graduated Sum Cum Laude with a Master's degree in Art History in l970. She followed that with work on her Doctorate while teaching at SUNY Cortland. An artist of some reknown, Christa received numerous awards and accolades from juried art competitions in New York, North and South Carolina and the Bahamas.She was a strong advocate for education, animals, the disadvantaged and the environment and stood up resolutely for her beliefs. She was extremely interested in world events and relished a good conversation about anything that promoted culture. She was a strong, intelligent and amazing woman; a true gift to those she gave the opportunity to know her well.She is survived by her son Lee Talbot and his wife Shauna and four grandchildren; Kathryn, Jennifer, Charles Spencer and Olivia.
