Charles Nevin Darden, 89, of Tryon Estates passed away Wednesday evening, May 10, 2017.Born in Clinton, NC, he was the son of the late Elliott and Margaret Fisher Darden. He is also predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.Mr. Darden was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a long time educator. He held degrees from Wake Forest and Duke University. He was an exceptional father, husband, and friend to many. His passions included his family, golf, and playing baseball for the Navy and Wake Forest. Surviving is his wife, Linda Huffaker Darden of Columbus, NC: Sons, Richard Stewart Darden (wife Kathy) of Wilmington, NC, Charles Russell Darden (fiancée Tonya) of Hickory, NC, Gibson Fisher Darden (wife Amanda) of Murrells Inlet, SC: daughter Elizabeth LuAnne Niles (husband Michael) of Alexandria, VA, and also 9 grandchildren.Memorial services at Tryon Estates are planned for a later date.
