Charlene Wooten Pace Travers entered Heavens Gate on Thursday December 13, 2018. Her life was lived as a testimony to the Saviour she served. Charlene shared her love of Jesus by taking her children to church and teaching Sunday School, Bible School, faithful to attend local Revivals and Gospel Singings, and honored those who passed before her by attending countless funeral and memorial services of family, friends and those in the community.Charlene was an avid "Keeper of the History" collecting and compiling books, articles, videos and audios in her tireless attempt to preserve the history of the family and community for future generations. She knew almost everybody and all their families' background and shared her knowledge and collection with all who would listen.She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years J.B. Pace who died December 20, 1997, the son of champion father Ransom Taylor Pace who was the father of 29 children and whose ancestors shared the beginning of the township of Saluda, formally Pace's Gap.Charlene is survived by her husband Tom Travers, and her seven children: Margaret Cagle, Gwen Garren, Linda Hunter and husband Donnie, Rev Curtis Pace and wife Levina, Wesley Pace and wife Jennifer, Anita Hoots and husband Tim, Melia Bradley and husband Jeff. Two step children Sabrina Wilkie and husband George, David Travers and wife Ellen.Grandchildren are Sonya Caughron, Dee Ward and husband Scott, Renae Garren, Lee Hunter, Robbie Travis and wife Pam, Sheila Swofford and husband Mark, Valerie Mintz and husband Preston, Zach Pace and wife Kelly, Jen Dickenson and husband Chad, Wyatt Pace, Callie Pace, Josh Hoots and wife Destiny, Courtney Ridings and husband Justin, Layla Fifer and husband Greg, Ryan Bradley and wife Grace, Aaron Bradley and wife Nicole.Step grandchildren Jonah, Christa and Jared Wilkie, Jamie and Trent Travers.Great grandchildren are Savannah Caughron, Amanda Anderson and husband Timothy, Robert Harris, Ashley Corn and husband Logan, Jackson and Jordan Hunter, Addison O'Neal, Kim Fullerton and husband Ashley, Madison and Gavin Swofford, Grant Kempster and wife Brittany, Mason and McKenzie Mintz, Cameron Hoots and wife Miranda, Mattison Hoots and wife Kelsey, Landon and Peyton Hoots, Levi and Harper Ridings, Haley Peek and husband Micah, Charlotte and Eleanor Bradley.Step Great grandchildren Evelyn and Enoch Fifer, Jaxon, Brantley and Bryson Travers. Mitchell, Jillian and Chole DickensonGreat-Great Grandchildren are Brookelynn Anderson, Conner and Tynlee Corn, Anna Grace Hunter, Emma and Henry Fullerton, Easton and Axel Kempster, Bristol Hoots, Kathy Jeffries and Arthur PeekHer grandsons will serve as pallbearers and her great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.Charlene was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and former member of Maranatha Baptist and Saluda First Baptist of which she was a loyal member and worker in every church she attended.Services to celebrate her life will be visitation from 6-8 pm at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon NC on December 15, 2018.Her funeral service will be 2 pm at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Rev Blair Stewart.Burial will be held privately.
