Matthews, N.C. - Chan Holden Robinson, 88, formerly of Tryon, NC, died Thursday, April 19, 2007, at Carrington Place, Matthews, NC. Born in Detroit, MI, he was the son of the late Eber and Louise Holden Robinson. After graduating in chemical engineering from Michigan State University, he spent his professional life in research and administration in New York, Ohio, and Illinois. Mr. Robinson was commissioned to active duty during WWII and retired from the U. S. Army Reserve as a Lt. Col. in l978. He lived in Polk County from 1980 to 1999 before moving to Spartanburg and Charlotte. During his years in Polk County he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Lions Club and the Tryon Gun Club. He volunteered at St. Luke's Hospital and was active in many civic organizations. He was a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church. Jean Vawter Robinson, his wife of 57 years preceded him in death. Surviving are two daughters, Rebecca J. Guinagh (Barry) of Gainesville, FL; Pamela A. Elsass (Daniel) of Cornelius, NC; two sons, Kermit C. Robinson of La Habra, CA; and Gregory L. Robinson (Patty) of Bolingbrook, IL. Also surviving are 4 grandsons and 3 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at the Western North Carolina Veterans Cemetery Chapel at Black Mtn, NC, on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at 12:00 noon. Private burial will follow. The family welcomes all to a reception at the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC. at 2 pm Wednesday, April 25, 2007. Dr. James C. McPherson will offer prayers.
