Obituary

COLUMBUS – Cassandra Teresa Simone-Munson, 77, of Columbus, passed away, Friday morning, June 5, 2026, at Terrabella in Spartanburg.

Born in New Britain, CT, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale Simone and Clementine Araujo Simone. Cassandra spent most of her career in software. She worked for Aetna, HealthNet, Postal Innovations and owned a consulting firm. She and her husband, Paul, moved to Columbus in August of 2024, coming from Cromwell, CT. She attended Big Level Baptist Church in Mill Spring.

Cassandra was a force of nature known for her laugh, crazy hair, selflessness, of most of all her dancing abilities. Growing up with 3 older brothers gave her toughness and also the ability to eat quickly (otherwise she wouldn’t eat at all). Two of Cassandra’s favorite things to do was read and travel. Cassandra and Paul visited the Caribbean frequently, as the beach was one of her favorite places to be. Perhaps her favorite trip was the cruise down the coast of Alaksa. She also loved going to the beach every summer with family and friends, attending her grandkids sporting events, holiday dinners, and her dogs throughout the years. And although she may have shown up late and in a speeding car, Cassandra was always there for her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Stephen Simone and Robert Simone; two stepsons, Jason Penta and Jeffrey Munson.

Surviving is her loving husband of 31 years, Paul Munson; one son, Steven Penta of Plainville, CT; one stepdaughter, Jill Raymond and her husband Sean of Columbus; four grandchildren, Toni Penta, Nikolas Penta, Hayley Raymond, and Koltin Raymond; one brother, Anthony Simone of Fernandina Beach, FL. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Cassandra’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Big Level Baptist Church at 4940 Big Level Rd, Mill Spring, NC with Reverend Sean McKaig officiating.

Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Army’s Legacy Animal Rescue or to Tunnel to Towers.
