Tryon, NC - Carolyn S. Poe, 74, of Tryon Estates and formerly of Warrior Drive, Tryon, NC died Tuesday, October 03, 2006, in St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus, NC. Born in Atlanta, GA, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose Everrett Carroll and Viola K. Smith. She moved to Polk County 21 years ago from Minneapolis, MN and Western Springs, a suburb of Chicago. Mrs. Poe was an active member of the Friends of the Polk County Library. The "Works of Poe" memorial bookend was placed in the library in her honor by her daughters. She was also a longtime volunteer with Steps to Hope where she had served on their court watch detail. Carolyn was a member of the Tryon Garden Club and the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC. Surviving are: her husband of 53 years, Lawrence J. Poe; three daughters, Holly Durbin Millar of San Diego, CA; Cynthia Lynn Poe of Toledo, OH; Laurel M. Gallagher of La Grange, IL; a brother, Wilbur Richard Carroll Smith, II of Bell Buckle, TN. Also surviving are three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2006 in the Tryon Estates Auditorium, Columbus, NC with Rev. David Hosick officiating. A reception will be from 4:30 until 6:00 P.M. Saturday, October 7, 2006 in Tryon Estates.
