Carla Bernice Barnsley, 86 of White Oak Apartments, Tryon, NC died Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Smith Phayer Hospice House, Landrum, SC.Born in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Carl Ernest and Kathryn Winchester Readmon Bergren. She moved to Tryon in 1994 from Bethlehem, NC. She was an active volunteer in several hospitals with over 3000 hours of service. Mrs. Barnsley was a member of the Church of Ascension in Hickory, NC.Surviving are her husband, Sidney Barnsley; three sons, Gordon Eugene Barnsley of Kemp, TX, Clifford B. Barnsley of Barton, VT and Bradford A. Barnsley of Bridgewater, MA; two daughters, Sandra B. Hicks of Sudbury, MA and Melinda J. Swidrak of Bellingham, MA; two sisters, Florence Marsh and Gertrude Boone both of Stapleton, GA. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren.Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dn. Marilyn Baker officiating.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Tuesday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr., Columbus, NC 28722.
