Obituary
Carl Scherrod Smith passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023 in Tryon, North Carolina.
Carl was born January 16, 1941 in Newberry, SC to Eston K. and Margaret Smith. He went to Prosperity High School where he played various sports, upon consolidation of Prosperity, Little Mountain and Pomaria High School into Mid Carolina which he graduated from 1959 and received a football scholarship to attend University of South Carolina. He graduated in 1964 and moved to Houston where he rose through the ranks of Shell Corporation before retiring in 1998. He then spent six months living in Paris, before returning to the United States and eventually North Carolina. In 2000, he bought his home in Tryon and settled down to enjoy golf, his friends, and many lively political debates.
Carl was predeceased by his son, Kenneth Edward Smith; his daughter, Donna Lynn Smith Shelton; his brother, Doyle Eston Smith, and his sister Sandra Smith Cribari.
He is survived by his grandson, Jayson Sherrod Shelton, his brothers, Howard Smith and Barry Smith, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and his loving wife Mary Stephens.
