Obituary
Green Creek, NC-Carl Harold Kuykendall, 83, passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, October 10, 2024.
Born and raised in Polk County, NC, he was the son of the late Carl Bill and Ina Mae Benson Kuykendall. After high school, he married Clara Mae Stone and then was drafted in the US Army where he served his county during Vietnam. After returning from the war, he became a truck driver and continued driving until he was 80. He was a devoted husband, father, papa and "Poppy".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy McSwain.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Clara Mae Kuykendall ; a daughter, Crystal Gayle Kuykendall Ponder (Bobby) Mill Spring, NC; three grandchildren, Aarron McAbee (April) from Mill Spring, Josh Ponder (Kasey) Mill Spring, NC and Ashley Ponder of Mill Spring, NC; nine great grandchildren, Chandler, Coalden, Waylon, Anzleigh, Kylie, Amberly, Ripp, Jaleel, Jazani; two brothers, Allen Kuykendall (Linda), Thurman Kuykendall (Ann). Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024 at McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, NC with Pastor Bill Kuykendall officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
