Obituary

Carey Procho Dozier passed away on August 6, 2024.  She was 72 years old.  Carey had been a resident of Tyron, North Carolina for the last two years.

Before that she had been a frequent visitor accompanying her husband Dr. Gus Dozier, who practiced medicine there.

Carey was born on September 7, 1951.  She was one of three of the "ABC Procho triplets", Alex, Beth and Carey.  Her early years were spent in Woodridge, NY in the Catskill region of New York State. Carey returned to Brooklyn, New York at the age of 10.  Shortly after her "baby sister" Yvonne was born.  Yvonne gave much joy to Carey and her siblings.  Carey attended Lafayette High School where she was active in numerous activities.  She was the yearly choreographer of the stage show called "Sing." It was during these years that she fell in love with the world of modern dance.

After graduating High School Carey obtained her Bachelors Degree at York College in Queens, NY.  She went on to obtain a Masters Degree at NYU, New York University.  After that she taught in the elementary school system in Westchester County in NY.  At the same time Carey was pursuing her passion for modern dance, studying with one of NY's premier dance companies.  During this time Carey gravitated to the restaurant business and moved to the West Village of Manhattan.  She eventually left the world of dance to take on a managerial position at the world-famous restaurant "Windows of the World" at the World Trade Center. After 11 years there she moved onto another famous New York City restaurant, Cafe des Artistes. This was followed by the Sony Club restaurant and the Palace Hotel.

In 1995 Carey took a leap of faith and moved to Atlanta.  She knew almost no one, but that soon would change.  Carey's magnetic personality and strong work ethic earned her many friends and good jobs.  She worked for more than 10 years at Atlanta's popular restaurant, the OK Cafe, and was loved by her fellow workers. Her nickname was Miss Coffee.

In 2014 Carey married Dr. Gus Dozier.  They were devoted to each other and spent most of their married life in Atlanta, Georgia.  In 2020, Carey received a diagnosis of lung cancer.  Throughout her treatment Carey amazed family and friends by her optimistic attitude.  Many of her friends would remark "If I could only be like that."  Carey's spiritual beliefs also helped her during this time.

In 2022 Carey and her husband Gus moved to Tryon, North Carolina.  She loved it there.  This would be her last stop until she entered heaven.  Carey succumbed to the cancer that she had been valiantly fighting for almost four years.  Death came while she was sleeping on August 6, 2024.

Carey was preceded in death by her mother Lee Dicken, father Alexander Procho, and brother, Alex Procho. She is survived by her husband, Gus Dozier; her sister, Beth Procho; her younger sister, Yvonne Procho, and Skippy their beloved dog.
