Lynn, N.C. - Byron Stewart Guffey, 58, husband of Barbara Holcomb Guffey of Lynn Road, Columbus, NC died Monday, August 4, 2008 in St. Luke's Hospital, Columbus, NC. Born in Polk County, NC he was the son of Charles Guffey of Morristown,TN and the late Marie Cater Guffey. He was a Veteran having served in both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving beside his wife and father are: Four sons, Stephen Pettyjohn of Columbus, NC; Brian Guffey of Cartersville, GA; Charles Guffey of Adairsville, GA; and Benjamin Byars of Alamo, GA; three daughters, Pamela Kuykendall of Bristol, VA; Kimberly Lanham of Adairsville, GA and Colleen Pelz of Columbus, NC; 3 sisters, Charlene Jackson of Canton, GA; Margaret Todd and Joan Spoon both of Morristown, TN. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon, NC. Burial will be in Polk memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to The McFarland Funeral Chapel to offset funeral cost.
