Obituary

HENDERSONVILLE -- Butch Metcalf, 74, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, July 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.

Butch was born in Travelers Rest, South Carolina to the late Robert Warren Metcalf, Sr. and Nell Alderman Metcalf. He was a 1970 graduate of Saluda High School and went on to serve in the North Carolina Army National Guard. Later he worked for Federal Paper Board, Cranston Print Works for 25 years until its closure and finished his working career at Timken Steel in Columbus, North Carolina.

Butch was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. For many years, he worked alongside his son, Kenny, doing yardwork until his health declined. Butch was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, North Carolina.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Metcalf and Robert Metcalf, Jr.

Butch leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Martha Jones Metcalf; one son, Kenny Metcalf (Kiristie) of Saluda; two daughters, Lynn Metcalf of Hendersonville and Diane Pack (Mikey) also of Hendersonville; three grandchildren, Makayla McMinn (Luke) of Hendersonville, Marissa Donati (Josh) also of Hendersonville and Bryson Metcalf (Lexie) of Saluda; two great-grandchildren; Noah McMinn and Riley Donati and one on the way; two brothers, Corbett Metcalf (Elaine) of Greenville, South Carolina and Tim Metcalf (Sandy) of Easton, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Sandra Rhodes (Harrison) of Saluda and Rowena Sweezy (Mike Edney) of Landrum. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Maranatha Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, North Carolina.

A funeral service will follow at the church at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Steve Gibbs officiating.

Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

At other times, the family will be at the home of his daughter, Lynn Metcalf.
