TRYON – Alfred Berwyn Carr "Bob", 93, of Tryon, NC, former resident of Michigan, passed away, Monday morning, September 9, 2024, at his home.

Bob was born May 1, 1931, to Alfred B. and Delphia (Edick)Carr in Jackson, Michigan. Bob is survived by his wife, Betsy,daughter, Jana (Ray) Alvarado, grandchildren, Magen Zotovich, Matthew Tucker and Amy (Chad) Goldey, great-grandchildren, Roman and Elliott of Sacramento, California and Jennifer Rumberger, grandchildren, Rachel, Jordan and Abigail, great-grandchildren, Leah and D'Andre, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and pre-deceased by his eldest daughter, Laurie Carr.

In 1948, Bob graduated from Flint Central High School in Flint, Michigan. He then took a job with Chevrolet Motor Car Company in Flint for one year. After that experience, he enrolled in Michigan State University to study Industrial Design. He graduated from Michigan State in December 1954 and was hired by General Motors Styling as a designer in January 1955. While working for General Motors, Bob worked in all five of thestyling studios of the company and also traveled internationally to consult and design. He retired in 1989, as the assistant executive over all of the Buick, Oldsmobile and Cadillac Interior Design Studios.

All of his life Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman and nature conservationist. After retirement, he married Elizabeth Ritter"Betsy". During their years together in Michigan, they became avid hunting and fishing partners. They then moved to North Carolina where they enjoyed their horses and dogs. They traveled extensively and enjoyed participating in field trials with many of their hunting dogs. Additionally, Bob was an extremely talented artist, completing portraits of his horses, dogs, familyand friends. He was motivated to personalize and design many aspects of all of the homes that he and Betsy shared together.Bob was also an amazing story and joke teller and had a great sense of humor with a laugh that filled a room.
