- Betty Newman Constance, 95, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017 at Ridge Rest Assisted Living in Columbus, NC.A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late C.F. and Orpha Fisher Newman. Betty was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother she enjoyed caring for her family. Betty was a member of Pacolet Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Russell Constance who passed away in 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Maradean Newman Morris, and a brother-in-law, C.A. Cotton Morris.Surviving are a daughter Pat Constance Smith (Bill) of Tryon, NC; two grandsons, Storm Smith and Zachary Smith; and one great grandson, Garrett.The family wishes to thank the staff at Ridge Rest Assisted Living Center for the loving care that was provided.A graveside service will be held at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Darryl Maxwell officiating.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, P.O.
