COLUMBUS –
Barbara Spencer Lyles, 78, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday morning, November 11, 2025, at Upstate Community Hospice House in Landrum.
Born in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late William Boykin Lyles and Barbara Spencer Lyles. Barbara was a 1966 graduate of Spartanburg High School and went on to graduate from Stratford College in Danville, Virginia and Spartanburg Technical College. Barbara worked her entire career as a Lab Technician, having worked at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center and retiring from St. Luke's Hospital.
Barbara enjoyed birdwatching, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, going to car and truck shows, NASCAR and mother and daughter trips. But most of all, she loved being a Grandma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, William Lyles; a stepson, Mark Henson, Jr.
Surviving is her life-partner, Mark Henson, Sr.; one daughter, Carmen Alleyne (Corey) of Kennesaw, Georgia; one sister, Elizabeth Raymond of Spartanburg; one granddaughter, Carissa Alleyne; two stepdaughters, Amelia Stieber of Stafford, Virginia and Olivia Henson of Greensboro, North Carolina. Also surviving are her two feline boys, Dabo and Pokomoke.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
A private graveside will be held.
