Tryon, NC - Barbara Mills Edney, 78, of 159 Edney Road, Tryon, NC died Tuesday, February 5, 2013 in her sleep. Born in Polk County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Eva Myrtle Blackwell Mills and was raised in the home of Grady & Bessie Mills Edney of Pacolet Valley, NC. She graduated from Tryon High School in 1952 and worked many years with Dr. Earl Hornbeck, Dr. John Oliver and Drs. McCall & McCall as a dental assistant. Later she worked with Dr. Paul Walters & Dr. Raymond Myers. Barbara was a member of the Tryon Seventh Day Adventist Church.Surviving is her husband of 58 years, Carl Edney; three sons, Dr. Steve Edney of Hendersonville, NC, Dr. Richard Edney (Dina) of Mills River, NC, Tony Edney (Heather) of Charleston, SC; daughter Dr.Julie Tullock (Tim) of Fletcher, NC; brothers Johnny Mills and Jack Mills (Patsy) both of Columbus, NC; seven grandchildren, Lacy & Starla Edney and Elizabeth, Zack & Chad Tullock and McKinsey & Maddie Edney. She was preceded in death by a sister Ruby Bradshaw, brothers William "Brownie" Mills, Ray Mills, Joe Mills and Neal Mills.A celebration of her life will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013 in the Lelia Patterson Center, 1111 Howard Gap Road, Fletcher, NC 28732 with Pastor Tom Hughes, Pastor Author Gibbs and Pastor Gene Young officiating.Memorials may be made to the Tryon Seventh Day Adventist School, Worthy Student Fund, 2820 Lynn Road, Tryon, NC 28782.
