Columbus, NC- Arthur Laird Wetherell, Sr. of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC passed peacefully on April 2, 2016, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary Jane Wilson Wetherell; sons Fred (Lindy) of Lake Wylie, SC ; Larry (Barbara) of North Augusta, SC ; Wilson (Cat) of Missoula, Montana ; Grandchildren Rick (Bara), Alex (Jessica), and Michael (Sarah) Wetherell; Anne Wetherell Drobny (Eric) ; Mark Wetherell (Ciara); and 7 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Mr. Wetherell was born in Daytona Beach, FL on April 8, 1923 to the late Carl Frederick Wetherell and Elizabeth Coleman Wetherell. He was also the brother of the late Howard "Cooter" Wetherell of Daytona Beach. He served in WWII in the US Army in the China, Burma, India Theatre. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1943. He had a successful career with George Koch & Sons, becoming a pilot , which allowed him to fly to customers all over the country. He later Co-Founded Greenline Corporation in Charlotte, NC. Art's greatest love was always his wife, Janey, and his family. He was a beloved husband, a caring father, a supportive brother and a doting grandfather and great grandfather. He was a life-long role model and inspiration to his children. His beautiful smile and caring personality served him well in establishing lasting friendships.
