COLUMBUS, NC - Anne Mitchell Gokey, 86, of Tryon Estates, Columbus, NC passed away, Monday afternoon, April 8, 2013 at her home.Born in West Point, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gen. William A. Mitchell and Margery Brady Mitchell. Mrs. Gokey moved to Columbus, NC in 2007 coming from Melbourne, FL. She enjoyed scuba diving, water skiing and collecting sea shells. Mrs. Gokey was a member of the Tryon Presbyterian Church, Tryon, NC. Surviving is her husband of 67 years, Noah Webster Gokey, III; two sons, James Gokey (Lynne) of Cincinnati, OH and Dan Gokey (Libby) of Landrum, SC; one daughter, Patricia Gokey of Campobello, SC. Also surviving are two grandchildren.A memorial service will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
