GREEN CREEK, NC - Alvin "Rusty" Ray Jones, 81, of Green Creek, NC passed away, Sunday afternoon November 8, 2015 at his home.Born in Henderson County, NC, he was the son of the late Miles and Ollie Blackwell Jones. Mr. Jones was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam serving in the U.S. Navy. After Vietnam, he went to work for the Times-News in Hendersonville in 1959 as a printer and later worked for the Greenville News in Greenville, SC. Mr. Jones retired from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1996. He moved to Green Creek in 1999 coming from Hendersonville. He was a member of Green Belt, MD VFW Post. Mr. Jones was a member of Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, Rutherfordton, NC.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jill English; three sisters, Willie Pace, Sadie Lowrance and Vera Jean Gibbons.Surviving is his wife of twenty-nine years, Hannah Coffey Jones; one son, Jeff Jones (Donna) of Hendersonville, NC; one daughter, Julie Jones of Travelers Rest, SC; four grandchildren, Jeff Jones, Jr., Joshua English, Jenna Hughes and Kim Fullerton; five great grandchildren, Audrey Jones, Rayne English, Jacoby Brown, Emma and Henry Fullerton.The family will receive friends prior to the service Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church.A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 in Rutherfordton Presbyterian Church, Rutherfordton, NC with Dr. Don Scofield officiating.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722 or to Galilean Children's Home, 712 S.
