Tryon, NC - Alvin Freeman, 88, of Walhalla, SC died October 10, 2014 in White Oak Village, Tryon, NC after an extended illness.Born January 17, 1926 in Pickens, SC to Clarence E. and Margaret Pace Freeman he was married to Florence Gantt, Februrary 14, 1946. A Retiree of the U.S. Naval Reserves, he was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Clemson University, he was retired from Soil Conservation Services and was a retired Land Surveyor. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Walhalla and served as a deacon and volunteer for many disaster relief projects.He is survived by his wife; 1 sister, Lucille Hendricks (George) of Augusta, GA; 2 sons, Reverend Dan Freeman (Judy) of Mooresville, NC, and Dr. John Freeman (Kim) of Landrum, SC; a daughter Susan Eernisse (Dr. Glenn) of Carrollton, GA; 3 grandsons; 4 granddaughters; 5 great-grandsons; 5 great-granddaughters; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews; and adopted son, Doyle Pearson (Brenda) of Walhalla, SC.He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Al Freeman; 2 sisters, Edith Craig and Sarah Gibson; 3 brothers, Benjamin Freeman, Earl Freeman, and Clarence Freeman; 1 grandson, Kyle Freeman. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 13, 2014 at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Pickens, SC, to be conducted by family members.
