COLUMBUS, NC -- Albert D. Rolla, 71, of Oakwood Lane, Columbus, NC died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at his home.Born in New York City, NY, he was the son of the late Albert and Rose Quagila Rolla. Mr. Rolla was a veteran of the United States Navy, a graduate of Westchester College in New York, with a degree in Bio-Chemistry and also graduated with a degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts. He had worked as a Chemist with Monsanto in Texas City, TX and Springfield, MA and worked as a Systems Analyst for the Texas Department of Transportation. Mr. Rolla was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon, NC and The Knights of Columbus. He served on various committees for the Pacolet Area Conservancy and served as president for two years. Al was involved with the Tryon Little Theater and Tryon Fine Arts Center. He was also on the disaster team with the American Red Cross.Surviving is his wife, Beatrice Bellemin Rolla of the home. Two brothers, Richard Rolla (Mickie) of Bradenton, FL and Dennis Rolla (Kathy) of Camel, NY; one sister, Helen Rolla Harris (Donald) of San Ramon, CA. Also surviving are three nephews and two nieces.A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Father Robert R. Conway officiating.Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Grand Coteau, LA at a later date.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722 or Polk County Red Cross, 231 Ward Street, Columbus, NC 28722.
