Obituary

Lynn, NC- Alan (Hap) Dillistin Johnson, 94, of 1020 Capps Road, Lynn, NC, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 in Landrum, South Carolina.He was born in Newark, NJ, and was the son of the late Alan and Helen Beveridge Dillistin Johnson. He was trained as an aerospace engineer at Purdue University. After serving in the Army Medical Corps as a conscientious objector during World War II, he returned to NASA, and worked there for 30 years. Much of his career was spent as director of the NASA Plumbrook Research Station in Sandusky, OH, living in Norwalk, OH with his wife and 4 daughters. He and his wife, Mary Jane, retired to NC to plant a vineyard and a large garden, and pursue many and varied crafts.Surviving are a wife, Mary Jane Johnson, and daughters Jinny Johnson, Cynthia Johnson, Elizabeth Hitch (Keith), and Ann Johnson (Mike). Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.A memorial service will be held in the future, and will be announced later.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Drive, Columbus, NC 28722.
