Alan Babcock of Saluda, NC passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024.
He was born on December 7, 1951 in Snyder, TX to Dorothy and the late Foy Babcock.
Alan enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war and served in Germany working as a military driver. His medals include National Defense Service Ribbon, Sharpshooter and Drivers Badge.
While in Germany, Alan received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and felt a calling to spread the gospel. After the Army, while working in Paris, TX he met the love of his life, Norma. They were married on December 29,1973 in Hugo, OK. He next matriculated with Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, MN to prepare for ministry. After college he spent the next three decades in full-time pastoral ministry. Alan founded churches in Ravena, Greenville and Hudson NY as well as Goose Creek, SC. He was recruited to work for the BenefitFocus company in 2010. Before retirement Alan served as a deputy sheriff for the Charleston County Sheriff's Department.
He was predeceased by his father Foy Babcock and brother Jim Babcock.
He is survived by his loving wife Norma Babcock of Summerville, SC, his mother Dorothy, brother Larry (Kathy), daughter Heather, son Jeremy and grandson Jayden Gorhau (who loved his 'Papa Smurf'). Alan is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered by his family for being a loving husband, father and grandfather. Those fortunate enough to have been under his ministry remember him for his excellent preaching and teaching, his commitment to the Scriptures, and his love for Jesus. Pastor Alan Babcock was, and still is, a hero to many.
Celebration of Life will be on July 25th at Cypress Gardens in Monks Corner, SC from 11am to 4pm.
He will be laid to rest on July 26th 2024 at Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:30pm with full military honors.
