Columbus, NC. -- Adelaide Watkins Allen, 95, of Columbus, NC died Friday, August 27, 2010 in Smith Phayer Hospice House in Landrum, SC.Born in Charlotte, NC, she was the daughter of the late Willis and Willie Mae Nance Watkins. She was the widow of Ralph G. Allen, Sr. who died in 1987. Mrs. Allen was a very active member of Tryon United Methodist Church where she had received the Laity Service Award. Surviving is one daughter, Joyce A. Prince of Columbus, NC; two, sons, Ralph G. Allen, Jr. (Ann) of Orlando, Fl and Steven L. Allen of Pickens, SC; one sister, Evelyn Coggins of Columbia, SC.. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson, one sister and four brothers. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 in Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbus, NC with Rev. Phillip Hurst Officiating.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Carolina Foothills, 130 Forest Glen Dr., Columbus, NC 28722.The family will be at the home of her daughter, Joyce A. Prince, 144 Beechwood Dr., Columbus, NC 28722.
